Ra Uru Hu

Ra Uru Hu (Alan Robert Krakower, 1948–2011) published extensively across three decades. His books range from the foundational texts of the system to specific mechanics, Type studies, and the I’Ching structure. Most were published through Human Design America (Santa Fe, New Mexico) and Jovian Archive Corporation. The Black Book (1991) and the Rave I’Ching are the two foundational texts; everything else builds on them.

Foundational Texts

  • The Human Design System The Black Book. Ra’s first publication (1991). The foundational text of the Human Design System, covering cosmology and the original mechanics. This edition is produced from scans of the original.
  • The Rave I’Ching Ra’s textual foundation for the 64 gates. Covers Gate and Hexagram names, Channel names, Harmonic Gates, Circuit membership, astrological positions, line names and descriptions, and Incarnation Crosses for each gate.
  • The Complete Rave I’Ching The most complete gate and line reference. Every gate, every line, with hexagram images, life lessons, and Incarnation Cross references.
  • From The Book of Letters: A Guide to Human Design Analysis The White Book. Ra’s second publication (1995, Munich). Sequel to the Black Book; goes deeply into BodyGraph mechanics and chart interpretation.

I’Ching and Line Structure

  • Rave I’Ching: Line Companion 438 pages. Extensive commentary on the Gates and Lines as listed in the Complete Rave I’Ching. Ra describes each Gate and Line in depth.
  • Line Resonance A focused study of the hexagram structure and how it is put together. Covers line values and the relationship between lines.
  • Roads and Tunnels How the conscious (black) and unconscious (red) gates operate in a Human Design chart. 32 pages.

Circuitry and Mechanics

  • Rave BodyGraph Circuitry: A Guide to Channels and Circuits In-depth journey through the Channels. Covers each Channel with references to Gates and descriptions of Circuit groups. Updated second edition with new illustrations and keynote tables.
  • Rave BodyGraph Circuitry Illustrates the connections between Circuit Groups, Circuits, and Channels and ties the way Channels work into the fundamental functionality of the Types. Companion to the Channels book above.
  • Profile and Type Reference Book Reference text covering Profiles and Types in depth.
  • The Global Incarnation Index: Incarnation Crosses Half to full-page descriptions of each of the 192 Incarnation Crosses, organized by Gate. Includes Right angle, Juxtaposition, and Left angle crosses. Edited transcript of a Ra lecture.
  • Colors Ra’s teaching on the Color layer of Human Design — the sub-structure beneath gates and lines.

Type Studies and Relationships

  • Generator Book Comprehensive study of Generators and Emotional Generators (including Manifesting Generators). Covers the Gates and Channels of the Sacral center and how they affect different Generator types.
  • Love Book: Connectivity ~ Relationships ~ Love & Life Ra’s exploration of love through the Human Design lens. Covers the gates specifically related to love, the mechanics of connectivity, and relationship dynamics.
  • Sexuality Manual Summarizes the mechanics of how we care for one another and connect sexually. Maps each individual’s connection to sexuality through the Streams of the BodyGraph.
  • The Many Faces of Fear Ra’s teaching on fear as it operates through specific gates and centers in the Human Design system.

With Co-Authors

  • The Definitive Book of Human Design: The Science of Differentiation with Lynda Bunnell. The most widely used single-volume introduction to the Human Design System. Based on Ra’s work and produced with his approval and cooperation. Published 2011.
  • Living Your Design (Italian edition) Ra’s foundational Living Your Design teaching, covering the basic concepts of Human Design including the nine Centers, Authorities, and Four Types. Note: this Amazon listing is the Italian edition (Vivere il Tuo Design). English editions are available through Human Design America (humandesignamerica.com).

Zeno Dickson and Chaitanyo Taschler

Zeno Dickson (1952–2020) and Chaitanyo Taschler were Ra Uru Hu’s exclusively contracted U.S. representatives from 1993. Human Design Revealed is the most recent edition of the work they began in 1993 and completed as The Course in Human Design in 1998 — the only comprehensive presentation of the system as Ra taught it before the Four Types overlay. It served as the standard for the original Human Design School until 2000. Chaitanyo’s ephemeris series is the definitive printed planetary position reference for Human Design practitioners. See /teachers/zeno-dickson and /teachers/chaitanyo-taschler.

Human Design Mechanics

  • Human Design Revealed by Zeno Dickson and Chaitanyo Taschler. The definitive manual and complete reference for the Human Design System based on its original revelation. Covers definition types and modes, centers, gates, channels, planets, ephemeris use, composites, revelation mechanics, synthesis index, calculation math, and the four elements. Fully illustrated in color. “The only presentation of the original Human Design System, a lone voice of simple clarity amidst a cacophony of interpretation.” Roots in 1993; the most recent incarnation of The Course in Human Design.

Ephemeris Series (by Chaitanyo Taschler)

The Zen Human Design Ephemeris series provides printed planetary positions for Human Design chart calculation, in 25-year volumes. Each volume shows all planetary positions in 12-hour intervals, indexed to hexagrams and lines.

Eleanor Haspel-Portner

Eleanor Haspel-Portner, Ph.D. was Ra Uru Hu’s formally commissioned scientific researcher (1999–2002). Her books represent the only statistically documented study of the Human Design System and the primary published record of the 1999–2002 Rave Life Sciences research program. See also /teachers/eleanor-haspel-portner.

Chetan Parkyn

Chetan Parkyn trained with Ra Uru Hu in Taos, New Mexico in 1993 — one of the first American analysts certified. His books are the most widely distributed mainstream introductions to Human Design in print, translated into more than ten languages. He trained at New Sun Services America under Zeno Dickson and Ra.
