The Teaching Lineage

Ra Uru Hu’s own account of how the Human Design System was transmitted — the teachers, the generations, and the intention behind the knowledge.

This page documents the Human Design lineage using Ra Uru Hu’s own words where available, supplemented by publicly verifiable biographical records for each teacher. The International Human Design School (IHDS) is one institutional expression of this lineage. The lineage itself is larger than the institution — it includes teachers who trained directly with Ra before the IHDS formal structure existed, teachers who departed from the IHDS structure on doctrinal grounds, and teachers Ra himself appointed to lead national schools. This page documents all of them.

Section 1 — Ra Uru Hu on the Transmission

The Three Generations

Ra Uru Hu described the structure of his teaching lineage explicitly in his address to the third generation of teachers in 2005. He identified three generations of formal teacher training:

First generation — January 1996, San Juan Bautista, California. Ra’s first formal teachers training. Named participants documented in the public record include: Martin Grassinger, Alokanand Díaz (Alok), and others.

Second generation — 2000, Vienna, Austria. Ra described this as “the first with a universal principal” — meaning the first training conducted under a unified, internationally applicable standard. Ilse Sendler’s role in establishing Human Design Austria and heading German-speaking HD education from 2002 places her in this generational context.

Third generation — 2005. Ra’s address to this cohort included his explicit statement of intent for what IHDS-trained professionals should be and do.

“to create highly skilled professional analysts who can easily take their place in a global professional class using a standard training method that allows for uniqueness in both learning styles and analytic methods while simultaneously training all students to a uniform quantifiable level of excellence.”

Ra on the Knowledge Moving Away from the Source

Ra Uru Hu explicitly addressed what would happen as the knowledge spread further from the original transmission. The IHDS About Us page quotes Ra directly on this:

“The further the knowledge moves away from the original source, the more it will move away from its original intent.”

— Ra Uru Hu, quoted on ihdschool.com/about-us (retrieved June 2026)

This statement is used by IHDS to argue for the importance of official certification. It is also, read straightforwardly, an argument for the value of teachers who trained earliest and closest to Ra — including those who predate or operate outside the current IHDS structure.

Section 3 — What the Timeline Shows

The documentary record shows that active Human Design teaching preceded the IHDS formal structure by several years. Martin Grassinger was licensed as the first analyst globally in April 1993. Ilse Sendler became a certified analyst in 1995. Genoa Bliven was appointed by Ra to lead Human Design America in 1993. Jürgen Saupe began publishing and teaching in 1992. The teachers Ra trained earliest — between 1991 and 1995 — form the foundation of what later became the IHDS professional class, and several of them predated the institutional structure that now certifies their successors.

The IHDS was not founded before these teachers were active. It was established to standardize and extend what they had already begun.

The Florence ruling of June 3, 2020 (see /record) established that the ideas and methods of the Human Design System are freely discussable and not subject to copyright protection. The lineage of teachers documented on this archive spans the full range of that history — those who work within the current IHDS structure and those who do not.
