Witnesses · Respectful diverger

Richard Rudd

An early student who studied with the founder before developing the Gene Keys as a distinct system.

Relationship to the founder

Rudd learned the system in its earlier years and then built his own work from it. He neither stayed within the school nor broke with it, and he frames the debt with care rather than distancing himself from it.

What they say

On the Gene Keys pages he acknowledges that his work “owes much to The Human Design System, which was transmitted by Ra Uru Hu,” while presenting the Gene Keys as an evolution of that foundation rather than a version of it.

At the founder’s death in 2011 he wrote an elegy, “The Passing of Hu,” which is among the few pieces of testimony that render the man as a figure rather than as a founder. It opens on his size and his guitar: “He was a man, small in stature, wide in wonder, who flung his guitar with a flourish at the stars.”

How the account is weighed

Interest: Respectful diverger Rudd’s posture is that of a respectful inheritor who diverged rather than dissented, and he has an evident interest in a lineage that credits the founder while establishing his own system as separate. The elegy is quoted here in brief; it belongs to its author. What it preserves, in a sympathetic hand, is the same intensity the hostile witnesses describe as menace: the fire, the truth from within, the dogged grin.
