Mary Ann Winiger
Generator teacher trained entirely by the founder; Director of Human Design America before 2003; author of A Revolution of One.
Relationship to the founder
Winiger came to the system in 1997, at forty-seven, with a reading from the founder himself, and her whole education in it followed from him live, including a week of classes in New Mexico during his Sedona years. From July 2001 she wrote roughly sixty “Update Articles” for the Jovian Archive newsletter, served as Director of Human Design America, and wrote the introductory pages of its Incarnation Cross Manual. In later years she withdrew from practice on the ground her own authority gave her.
What they say
Her recorded recollections carry the man in motion: the close of her full reading, “Don’t believe a word I’ve said. You experiment and see for yourself”; his birthday gatherings, at which he set her, two years into her experiment, to running the first Generator workshops; and the day he ended her deflecting of would-be clients toward him with “Mary Ann, would you stop this. They’re coming to you, they want it from you.” (Recorded interview, April 2019.)
Her memory of the man is warm and musical: “Ra Uru Hu was not just a teacher, he was also a musician. His passion was music,” she wrote in a story preserved by the founder’s own archive, adding that she had “loved Ra’s music” while understanding, in the early days, little of what he was singing about.
Watching the turmoil of the post-founder years, she wrote the sentence that separates the teaching from the enterprise in one breath: “I guess I had unconsciously thought that the Human Design organization and community would be exempt from this breaking down because of what the system teaches. But it isn’t. Nothing is immune. Yet, the knowledge is untouched.” (Archived writings from her site, collected c. 2014 to 2015.)
How the account is weighed
Interest: Devoted A director of the founder’s own American operation, wholly loyal to the teaching, who watched the organization strain and kept her faith in the system by releasing her hold on the structure. The distinction she drew, an institution breaking while the knowledge stands, recurs across this record, from the departed founders to the Florence courtroom.
