A Human Design chart involves two separable operations, and the AI tools now offering to read one automate them to different degrees. The first operation is arithmetic: converting a birth moment into planetary positions and mapping those onto gates and lines. The second is interpretation: saying what the resulting BodyGraph means. The first is checkable against any conventional calculator. The second is not the kind of claim that a calculator settles — and the public material published by these tools says a good deal more about the first than the second.
The layer that can be checked
The calculation is fixed procedure. As the archive’s reference page on chart calculation sets out, a chart is derived from two moments — the birth instant, and a point roughly 88 degrees of solar arc earlier — with each planetary position converted into gate-and-line notation. Two tools working from the same ephemeris and the same birth data should return the same gates. Where they differ, one of them is wrong in a way that can be demonstrated rather than argued.
That matters for the AI question, because a language model can arrive at a chart by two quite different routes. It can be handed numbers computed elsewhere, or it can be asked to work them out — or to read them off an image — from its own training.
What each tool publishes about its method
The three most visible entrants disclose different amounts.
gethumandesign is the most specific. Its public page names the ephemeris it uses, JPL’s DE421 — a planetary and lunar ephemeris created by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in February 2008, referred to the International Celestial Reference Frame and covering 1899 to 2053 — and states that it computes both the personality and the 88-degree-solar-arc design charts before passing the result to its AI layer. It describes that layer as receiving the computed chart automatically rather than through an uploaded screenshot.
HumanDesign.ai presents a conversational guide it calls Bella, which it describes as “trained on thousands of Human Design readings” and asks users for an exact birth date, time, and location. Its public page does not state which ephemeris or calculation method produces the underlying chart.
The third entrant is the rights holder. Jovian Archive, the company Ra Uru Hu founded in 1999 to license Human Design, has a waitlist page at humandesign.io for an application it describes as “Coming soon to iOS, Android, and web.” It advertises an AI trained on “Over 2,500 hours of Ra’s teachings,” conversational access to that material against the user’s own chart, and real-time transits; a later phase is to add the full lecture library. The same page claims more than 50 million charts generated to date. The archive’s software record tracks this and the earlier calculation tools alongside it.
An interested characterization
The distinction between the two architectures has been drawn most sharply by a party with a stake in it. The gethumandesign page states that a general-purpose Human Design GPT interpreting an uploaded chart image can misread it or “hallucinate specific gates and channels,” in contrast to its own approach of supplying computed figures directly. That is a vendor describing the weakness of a rival design, and is best read as such. The underlying mechanism it points to — that a model asked to read values off a picture may return values that are not in the picture — is a general and widely documented property of image-interpreting models rather than anything specific to Human Design.
The measurement that has not been published
None of these tools has released an error rate. There is no published figure for how often any of them returns a gate, channel, or authority that differs from a conventional calculator run on the same birth data, and no independent audit of any of them appears in the public record. This is a narrower gap than the one the archive tracks on the interpretive side — where, as the validation record and the page on how accurate Human Design is both set out, the evidentiary questions are older and considerably harder — but it is an unfilled gap, and it concerns the one layer that could be measured straightforwardly.
The arithmetic is checkable by anyone: the same birth data run through more than one calculator either returns matching gate-and-line output or it does not. That test speaks only to the calculation. It does not reach the interpretation, and no comparison of outputs establishes what a chart means.
What is new in 2026 is not that software calculates charts — the software record traces that back to 1993 — but that a conversational layer now sits between the user and the numbers, and that the company holding the rights to the system is building one trained on the recorded teachings of its founder.
