The Voice on Ibiza

The Life of Ra Uru Hu

Ebusus, where the serpent cannot live, and from whose soil the creature flees as from poison.

Rendered from Pliny the Elder, Natural History, Book III.

In January 1987, on a hillside on Ibiza, a bankrupt Canadian advertising man said a Voice spoke to him for eight days and dictated a complete system of self-knowledge. Millions of people now generate the chart that came out of that room. This is the first documentary biography of Ra Uru Hu, born Alan Robert Krakower: the life before the island, the eight days as he told them, the system and institutions he built, and what became of them after he died. It separates what the documents establish from what rests on his own account, and keeps the two apart on every page.

This is a work of documentary history by A. R. Sayer. Every claim is sourced in the notes.

“The setting is real and verifiable even where the event within it is not. The Voice cannot be checked; the ruin can.”

From the interlude “The Island”
