Eleanor Haspel-Portner, Noble Sciences
In a sentence: the one divergence grounded in a claim about evidence, built by the psychologist who ran the system’s single validation study, concluded it was incomplete, and rebuilt it.
System and author. Noble Sciences, also published as Unified Life Sciences and presented as a “Beyond Human Design” body of work, created by the clinical psychologist Eleanor Haspel-Portner.
Relationship to Ra. A collaborator turned dissenter. She came to Human Design in 1996, went deep enough into the early system to serve as editor of the founder’s seminar monographs, published under Rave Life Sciences between 2000 and 2002, and in 1999 was, by her account, asked by Ra to validate the system scientifically, running its one large-scale study under the entity Rave Life Sciences before breaking with him.1
Origin. Her own system grew out of that validation work and the factor structure she drew from it, and has been published since under Unified Life Sciences (from c. 2002) and Noble Sciences, LLC (online by 2008), rebranded Noble Energy Wellness in the mid-2020s.2
What it keeps. The parts her study found held up, above all Type as a real statistical distinction, and the underlying chart of centers and gates.
Where it diverges. At the root. She rejects the founder’s central concept of the “not-self,” holding that a person is “always living yourself,” and she treats Human Design as an incomplete first three-month “snapshot” to be completed rather than a finished system. Her framework folds the nine centers into the four “worlds” of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, a structure she drew from her own factor analysis of the data, and adds the clinical and astrological material the founder did not have.3
In her own words. Her verdict on the system she was brought in to confirm is on the record and unsparing: Human Design, she has said, is “an incomplete, faulty, and disempowering system,” valuable but partial. The disempowerment is the heart of her objection: a framework that tells people they are helpless, she argues, gets the science backwards.4
Distinctive claims. That her work completes rather than competes with Human Design; that the system’s interpretive layers did not survive statistical testing while its skeleton did. She also had a direct hand in the canon itself: by her account the system’s “Dream Rave,” its account of the chart in sleep, took its workable form through her clinical knowledge of sleep architecture.
Published works. The Science of Human Design (2025), a short summary volume restating the statistical case; her materials published under Unified Life Sciences, Noble Sciences, and now Noble Energy Wellness; recorded talks and interviews narrating her years with Ra (2024-2025).5
Posture. Estranged but explicitly complementary. She presents her system as honoring the messenger while completing the message, and her interest as the proponent of her own framework is part of how her testimony must be read.
Record versus claim. The 1999 study, its authorship, and her later repudiation are documented; the published 2000 Rave Life Sciences paper was affirmative on Type, and the finding that much of the interpretive content did not hold up is the lead researcher’s own later public account. Her account of Ra’s private conduct is her attributed recollection, reported as such. Her closeness to the early system is corroborated by her editorship of the Rave Life Sciences seminar monographs.
