Richard Rudd is a British author, poet, and teacher who studied and taught the Human Design System with Ra Uru Hu from 1997 to 2004 — a seven-year period during which he became one of Ra’s senior teachers. He holds a Master’s degree in metaphysics and literature from Edinburgh University. His first encounter with Human Design came through a reading given by Chetan Parkyn, after which he went on to build the Human Design school in the United Kingdom and train a generation of early British students.

During his years with the IHDS, Rudd made a documented editorial contribution to the system’s core teaching materials: the 2004 edition of the Living Your Design manual, published by Human Design America and Jovian Archive Corporation, is credited “Revised and edited by Richard Rudd, with contributions from Ra Uru Hu.” This places him among a small number of people whose editorial work shaped the foundational curriculum of the IHDS — a contribution not prominently acknowledged in current IHDS materials.

In approximately 2002, while still active in the Human Design community, Rudd began synthesizing what would become the Gene Keys — a contemplative system using the same 64 I’Ching hexagrams as Human Design’s gates, reoriented toward shadow work and transformation rather than energetic mechanics. He spent seven years writing the foundational book, published in 2009. The Gene Keys correspondence to Human Design is direct and acknowledged: each Gene Key number matches the corresponding Human Design gate number exactly. In 2019 Rudd was named on the Watkins list of The 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People.

Rudd has been open about the lineage relationship between the two systems. Gene Keys Ltd. states on its own website: “The Gene Keys owes much to The Human Design System, which was transmitted by Ra Uru Hu between the years 1987 and 2012. Richard Rudd was a senior teacher of Human Design who brought the system to the UK and set up a school training many students.” His Human Design books from the IHDS period are being republished through genekeys.com. He continues to teach and develop the Gene Keys globally.
