Teaching focus

J. Randolph Richmond — known as Randy Richmond — was privately trained in the Human Design System by Ra Uru Hu in 1999 and was described as Ra’s close friend and neighbor in Ibiza until Ra’s death in 2011. He was among the founding institutional figures of the IHDS: from its formation in September 2000, Richmond served as Chairman of the Human Design Standards Board and as Registrar of the International Human Design School, responsible for certification of new Human Design analysts. He appeared on the first IHDS professional register published circa 2002–2003. Chaitanyo Taschler’s account names him among those who trained through New Sun Services America alongside Lynda Bunnell, Richard Rudd, Mary Ann Winiger, and Chetan Parkyn.

Richmond brought an unusually broad background to Human Design. He worked in alcoholism and drug addiction recovery for thirty-five years, operating a practice called Recovery by Design that applied Human Design chart analysis to individual recovery strategies. He was an Egyptologist with the University of Arizona, a life member of Mensa, and the author of Side by Side — a synthesis of the 12-Step Programs and A Course in Miracles. These disciplines informed a teaching approach that integrated Human Design mechanics with therapeutic and recovery frameworks in ways that distinguished his work from the mainstream IHDS curriculum.

Richmond taught at major IHDS events including the 2010 Human Design Annual Event alongside Ra Uru Hu, where he presented a free Q&A session open to all participants. He was a regular presence on the HD Unleashed web show series alongside John Martin of Human Design Hawaii and Theresa Blanding — a cohort of American teachers who pushed at the edges of official IHDS doctrine while remaining within the credentialed community. His Famous Raves series with Theresa Blanding, examining Human Design charts of public figures, was among the most popular educational content the IHDS produced during his active years.

Randy Richmond died on August 12, 2017. The IHDS Facebook page acknowledged his death that day: “A great man, Randy Richmond passed away today. He was an amazing person and friend.” He remained active in Human Design teaching until close to his death.
