Teaching focus

John Martin operated Human Design Hawaii from the Big Island of Hawaii, where he became one of the most widely reached Human Design teachers of his generation — his profile page describes him as “the fun loving HD guide who roams the halls of YouTube turning millions onto HD with your videos.” His teaching was known for its intensity and directness: he was described by students as someone who “shakes people out of their dream states,” who “allows the mind nowhere to hide,” and whose readings were deeply penetrating and at times confrontational. He worked one-on-one with clients as a Projector, offering what he described as complete focus without agenda — seeing what wasn’t working and helping clients see it too.

Martin taught alongside Theresa Blanding and Randy Richmond on the HD Unleashed web show series, and with Blanding developed a body of work on Tonal Cognition — a framework examining the sub-structure of Human Design inner authority that challenged the IHDS’s standard teaching on Authority. Their Vimeo video series “Your Body’s Life: Intro to Tonal Cognition” (2020) articulated a systematic critique of how inner authority had been taught within the official IHDS framework, arguing that true inner authority must be rooted in the red (Design/body) side of the chart rather than in personality-based definition. This teaching diverged from the post-2010 IHDS doctrine on Strategy and Authority.

Martin was removed from the IHDS professional register approximately 2018–2019. An anonymous account from within the Human Design community, retained by this archive, states that the removal followed his teaching of Tonal Cognition outside official IHDS doctrine. No formal communication about the removal has been made public by the IHDS. His name no longer appears in the IHDS certified professionals directory as of June 2026.
